A Swedish classic that I make from time to time when the falu sausage is cheap.

A simple basic recipe that can of course be modified according to taste and preference. I think this variant is sufficiently tasty for children (so quite mild), but if I make it for myself, I add a little something else to make the dish more tasty.

I have specified the number of servings as 4, but that is 4 rather large servings. If there is any left over, this is a perfect dish to throw into a lunch box and take to the jkob the next day.

Falukorv is a classic Swedish sausage and you can read more about it at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falukorv. For some extra information about sausage stroganoff, you can read more at https://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korv_Stroganoff (in Swedish).

Personally, I usually add a little vinegar right at the end when I fry the onions, a little heat in the form of some strong chili sauce or chili powder and paprika powder. If you'd rather use creme fraiche, that's fine of course, but I'm not a big fan of that taste so I use cream/milk instead. Speaking of which, you can of course adjust the amount of cream to milk to make the dish less fatty, but still try to keep the total amount of liquid roughly the same.

Some common modifications:

  • Add fried mushrooms and peppers
  • Add Sambal Oelek (or some kind of chili or sriracha sauce) for some heat
  • Add a little (2 tbsp) balsamic or other vinegar
  • Add a little paprika powder (1 tablespoon) for fuller flavor and more color
  • Replace cream and milk with creme fraiche or sour cream.
