I often choose the regular oven instead of the air fryer, but there are some things that the small hot air oven is perfect for. One of them is roasted potatoes. I have other recipes such as this where I make oven roasted potatoes which I think turn out great, but it takes a lot more work and they aren't exactly low in calories. For a simple, quick and low-calorie option, this recipe is perfect.
Peel the potatoes or not? Of course you can do what you like best, but personally I think it's better leaving the peel on. It does not matter for the times of the recipe.
I like to let the potatoes rest in cold water for 15 minutes after I cut them into smaller pieces. You then get rid of a little extra starch. However, make sure to pat dry the potatoes before mixing them with the spices.
If you want to be completely sure that the potatoes are cooked evenly all around, you can turn the potatoes with tongs or similar. My air fryer has a pretty good flow so I don't think I need to be so precise here but usually just shake the potatoes around a bit after 10 minutes. If there is enough space between the potato pieces, it usually turns out quite well anyway, but it can differ between different brands and models of air fryer.
This recipe is for 2 portions but can of course easily be doubled for 4 portions. However, I would recommend that you then cook the potatoes in 2 batches, otherwise it will be a little too crowded in most air fryers, which can affect the cooking. You want to try to keep the potatoes in one layer and not simply overfill the basket.
Ingredients
Directions
- Clean and slice the potatoes.
- Mix oil and all spices. Stir the potatoes in the spice mixture.
- Cook in air fryer, 195°C, 10 minutes. In this recipe I do not preheat the air fryer.
- Flip the potatoes and then cook for another 10 minutes or until the potatoes are soft in the center (test with a fork a few times during the last few minutes of cooking).
- Let the potatoes cool slightly.
- Serve with a little flake salt and chopped fresh parsley.
